Betjemanx launched at Henry Bloom Noble Library

A book tracing the late Sir John Betjeman’s links with the Isle of Man, ‘Betjemanx’, has been launched at the Henry Bloom Noble Library by its author, John Bowring.

Former Douglas borough librarian Mr Bowring was joined by local Betjeman Society members and the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Douglas, Councillor David Ashford and Mrs Sylvia Ashford.

John Betjeman is said to have been encouraged to visit the island by poet WH Auden and is once reported to have telephoned the Home Office to offer his services as the Isle of Man’s Lieutenant Governor.
