World Poetry Day

The Henry Bloom Noble Library celebrated World Poetry Day, March 21, in collaboration with the Isle of Man Poetry Society.

The society invited people to submit poems of 30 lines or fewer describing their experience, real or virtual, in a country of their choice, which were then put on show in the library by the society's chairman Bethany de Legh-Runciman, (pictured left with borough librarian Jan Macartney).

World Poetry Day is a celebration of poetry, literature and free speech observed by UNESCO every year. It aims to encourage creativity, inspire the teaching of poetry and restore a dialogue between poetry and the arts.

Borough librarian Jan Macartney said: 'Poetry is very much alive and well. World Poetry Day is a wonderful opportunity for people to express their thoughts and creative spirit. Reading the poems curated by Bethany has been a revelation and a delight.'
