Word of Mouth at The Henry Bloom Noble Library in October

‘Word of Mouth’ is the theme for October at The Henry Bloom Noble Library. We start the month with a celebration to mark National Poetry Day which falls on Thursday 2nd October. With great pleasure we welcome The Isle of Man Poetry Society who will perform for us on the subject ‘What’s Love got to do with it’. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Our second event is on Wednesday 15th October when Adrian Cain, Manx Language Officer at Culture Vannin hosts at an event entitled Manx Gaelic-Today and Tomorrow. Adrian will be speaking about the revival of the Manx Language after it was classified as extinct only a few years ago. It is hoped there will also be time for the audience to learn some words and phrases of Manx for everyday use. Come along for a fun, informative evening and to learn something new!

Both library events start at 7.30pm. Tickets are free but must be collected in advance from the library counter on the ground floor.

To compliment the events there will be exhibitions on each floor displaying different ways of spreading the word!

There will be an exhibition in the Children’s Library on the ground floor of well-known titles by Poets who write especially for younger readers and we’ll also be asking borrowers to tell us their favourite poem or poet.

The ground floor will also feature a display of audio books as an alternative way of hearing a story without picking up a traditional book. There are many formats to audio books; the most popular ones being on CD and by using a Playaway.

The first floor exhibition will feature our large and ever–expanding selection of autobiographies. If you’ve not tried one before why not pick up a copy by someone you admire in the public eye? The contents and revelations of some titles may surprise you! Why not make October the time to try a new genre of reading material?
The second floor display will concentrate on material by Manx Authors and items written in the Manx Language.
