Reading Agency Announces World Book Night 2013

This year World Book Night will be held on Tuesday 23rd April 2013. The Reading Agency has just realised the 20 titles and the giver application process is now open.


The 2013 World Book Night titles are:

• The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry

• Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman

• The Girl with the Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier

• The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde

• Casino Royale by Ian Fleming

• A Little History of the World by E. H. Gombrich

• The White Queen by Philippa Gregory

• Little Face by Sophie Hannah

• Damage by Josephine Hart

• The Island by Victoria Hislop

• Red Dust Road by Jackie Kay

• Last Night Another Soldier… by Andy McNab

• Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

• Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

• The Reader by Bernhard Schlink

• No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith

• Treasure Island by R. L. Stevenson

• The Road Home by Rose Tremain

• Judge Dredd: The Dark Judges by John Wagner

• Why be Happy When You Could be Normal? by Jeanette Winterson

This year’s list includes a ‘Quick Read’ by Andy McNab and, for the first time, a graphic novel, offering a range of titles that should have something for everyone. 

If you would like to become a WBN 2013 bookgiver you can apply now. Once again, World Book Night is looking for 20,000 volunteer givers. This year the givers will be distributing 20 copies each. To apply, go to The deadline for applications is 23 January 2013, and successful applicants will be informed by late February 2013.

In order to be a bookgiver, you must be:

• Aged 16 or over on 23 April 2013
• Resident in the UK, Ireland or the Isle of Man and be in the country on 23 April
• Able to collect 20 copies of your book from your local bookshop or library
• Committed to giving your books away on or around World Book Night to those who don’t regularly read.
